About
A mathematician who teaches.
Every lesson at Mathema Education is taught by Evangelos Mitsokapas, a researcher, a qualified teacher, and someone who has spent over 5,000 hours working one-to-one with students from Year 3 to their final year at university.
Evangelos holds a PhD in Mathematical Sciences from Queen Mary University of London, where his research modelled human memory and decision delays using the tools of statistical mechanics. Before that came an MSc in Mathematics with Distinction and a year of financial mathematics at the University of Zurich and ETH, both built on a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Patras.
Alongside research he trained as a school teacher, earning Qualified Teacher Status from the Department for Education in 2022, including eligibility to teach in special schools. He is an Ordinary Member of the London Mathematical Society and has taught undergraduate tutorials at Queen Mary and King’s College London.
What ties it together is a simple belief: mathematics is most powerful, and most enjoyable, when it is genuinely understood rather than memorised. That is the standard every lesson is held to.

Through the Disability and Dyslexia Centre at Queen Mary and his QTS training, Evangelos has certified experience supporting students with dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD and mild autism.
In practice that means clear structure, plenty of worked examples, multiple ways into the same idea, and a pace set by the student.
Beyond tuition
Research & resources.
Evangelos’s academic work sits in statistical physics and complex systems, with peer-reviewed papers in Scientific Reports and Physica A (2021). He also created the “A-Level Maths Explained” video series with Queen Mary and the Worshipful Company of Actuaries, and has delivered mock interviews for Oxbridge Mathematics applicants.
It keeps the teaching current, and it means a curious student can always be pointed one step further than the syllabus.
